5 Tips for keeping your website updated
A company’s website is one of it’s most important online marketing tools. Keeping your website fresh is a key factor in attracting new customers – and keeping existing ones. Here we explain why having an up-to-date website is important and some top tips to keeping it looking fresh and relevant.
1. Add a blog (and keep it updated)
If you don’t have a business blog, get one! It’s a great way to update your site – even if you only have time to do it once a month. If your lacking in ideas, here are a few pointers.
Do a review on a new product, service or relevant article.
Look at what your competitors are writing about and put a different spin on it.
Have a look through your older blogs and develop new article topics based on them.
2. Visit your own website regularly
Make sure you look at your own website on a regular basis.
When’s the last time you visited your website? It could be that it’s been a while. So it’s time to rekindle your familiarity with your site and look around it. This sounds like a waste of time, right? You know your site inside and out, well that might be the problem. You’ve become so familiar with your site, you might not be seeing it for what it really is. You need to start with the homepage and really read it. Look at every page and every piece of content. Does anything seem outdated? Are all your staff profiles and images upto date? Are all of your site links working?
3. Add images and videos to your site.
If you’re not a writer, then consider updating your website with images and videos but remember to make your images and videos search engine friendly by using transcripts and captions.
4. Update your Homepage
Your homepage is a great place to drive traffic too, so make sure it gives visitors clear messages with good calls to action. Update the page with seasonal images and use it to display special promotions, new blog posts add social media feeds.
5. Don’t let dates let you down
Dates can be tricky! If a promotion or event is in the past, get it off your site or archive it. Nothing is more frustrating for website visitors than going to a site and seeing expired content and out of date testimonals and products. If the last thing in your news section is a new member of staff joining you in 2013 then visitors aren’t going to view you as a current business who has their finger on the pulse. In fact they might get the impression that you don’t care about your website or your business.
As you can see, there are lots of ways of keeping a website looking fresh and updated. Just remember, a fresh website with updated content equals better search engine rankings, more traffic and repeat visitors. If you don’t have time to update your content yourself, consider hiring a professional to do it for you. The results will be well worth it!
